Serologist and veterinarian at the DTU VET serology laboratory. I am the main responsible person for the analysis of antibodies against PRRS (swine), Salmonella (poultry, bovine, swine), Paramyxovirus 2 (Newcastle disease in poultry), Yersinia enterocolitica (swine) – all by ELISA – as well as antibodies to PRRS by IPMA. Most of these analyses are accredited according to the ISO 17025 standard. Apart from this, I participate in the day-to-day running of the laboratory, which includes validating and approving results from accredited and non-accredited serological analyses, maintenance of the serological tests, visitation of received samples, approving and handling of cases as well as guidance of customers on subjects such as interpretation of results and choice of analyses. I participate in the DTU VET national reference lab function for Salmonella, and I am a part of the contingency plan on foot and mouth disease. Furthermore I am responsible for a part of the DTU VET sale of serological reagents to other laboratories and I participate in research and development projects in cooperation with the research groups of the institute.

As a former researcher at DTU VET, I have worked with the bacterium Mycoplasma hyosynoviae, which causes arthritis and lameness in swine. During my Post Doc I worked on a project that aimed at developing a vaccine against Mycoplasma hyosynoviae for use in swine. My tasks in this project was to perform studies on experimental infections with Mycoplasma hyosynoviae, to cultivate Mycoplasmas (for diagnostic- as well as antigen production purposes), to perform clinical surveillance of infected pigs, to perform post mortem examinations and to measure the response of the immune system to both infection and immunization.

During my PhD study, which was also about Mycoplasma hyosynoviae, I studied subjects such as immunity transferred from sow to offspring, the significance of the immune system for the degree of protection against infection and disease in weaners and slaughter pigs and finally the effect of passive immunization in slaughter pigs.
