I’m a PhD student in the field of food microbiology. I’m working in the research group of Antimicrobial Resistance and Molecular Epidemiology in the department of Microbiology and Risk Assessment.

I studied biology at a German university and finished with a master equivalent degree. During my studies, I specialized on applied microbiology.

In my Ph.D. project, I investigate bacterial and environmental factors that influence the occurrence, survival and spread of successful Salmonella clones. Thereby, I focus on studying antibiotic resistance and tolerance to disinfectants. My work includes techniques for the microbial and molecular characterization of Salmonella, such as DNA microarray analyses and assays of phenotypic expression.

2003 - 2008 Academic studies of Biology - Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Universität Greifswald, Germany

Academic grades

German Diploma in Biology

Languages

German (mother tongue), English (fluent), French (fluent)

Expertise

During my Diploma and Phd project, I applied techniques for the microbial and molecular characterization of microorganisms, such as DNA microarray and assays of phenotypic expression. In my Diploma studies, I analysed the microbial biocenosis in aquaculture systems whereas I focus now on characterization of different sero- and phagetypes of Salmonella.

International experience

2009: 2 weeks at the Veterinary Laboratories Agency (New Haw, London) to accomplish a whole genome microarray; 2001: 2 weeks work experience in the hotel industry in Paris/France; 1999-2000: School year abroad in Quebec/Canada
