Spent five years as a post-graduate researcher at the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council. PhD thesis on electricity market reforms in post-crisis Argentina (2007). Then 15 months in the private sector providing non-financial risk assessments for extractive companies operating in less developed countries. Followed by a lectureship in Sustainable Development at the University of Reading (UK), conducting research into the politics and social conflict surrounding the development of oil and gas in the Peruvian Amazon. Consultancy work for the Economist Intelligence Unit and Oxford Analytica.

Joined the UNEP Risø Centre in September 2010 as a researcher within the Cleaner Energy Development group. Have been involved in the Technology Needs Assessment project, responsible for Azerbaijan, Ecuador, El Salvador, Nepal and Moldova, in addition to analytical and academic contributions. Also URC manager for two FP7 projects (European Commission): the African Climate portal that promotes the uptake of climate change research in policy making in Africa, and CAAST Net+ that aims to inform the Africa-EU climate change policy dialogue, focusing on the role of research, science and technology.

Member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cleaner Production (Elsevier).
