Irene Rocchi graduated in Civil Engineering in 2007 at the University of Bologna presenting a study on the geotechnical characterisation of the soil in Pisa by means of CPTU. She then moved on to the Polytechnical University of Turin for her MSc. In 2008, Irene won an Erasmus scholarship and followed the MSc in Soil Mechanics & Engineering Seismology as an exchange student at Imperial College, London. There she completed her project on an experimental study on the coefficient of friction under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Coop.

In 2009, Irene completed her MSc and joined Geotechnical Consulting Group in London, where she worked for the Crossrail project. In 2010, Irene won a PhD scholarship from the Government of Hong Kong. In 2014 she completed her PhD (An experimental Investigation of the Influence of Weathering on Saprolitic Soils from Hong Kong) under the supervision of Prof. Coop. Afterwards she joined the Geotechnical research group at the DICAM Department and at the Interdepartmental Industrial research of the University of Bologna, where she worked on seismic-induced liquefaction and lateral spreading phenomena and field monitoring of river embankments.

In 2016, Irene joined the Technical University of Denmark and here she works on soil characterisation with special focus on thermal properties of soil and energy applications.
