Head of the parasitology laboratory providing diagnostic and advisory services for veterinarians and their clients regarding parasitic infections of production animals, pet animals, zoo animals and wild life. Providing advisory services to the Veterinary Authorities regarding parasitic infections of veterinary and zoonotic relevance, including participation in risk assessments panels in Denmark and EU (EFSA). Participation in supervision and teaching of PhD and Master’s students (DVM; MSc) within the field of parasitology. Active in research on protozoans of veterinary and zoonotic importance (i.a. Eimeria, Cryptosporidium & Giardia), vector-borne parasitic diseases e.g. babesiosis, as well as in research on relevant methodologies for detection of the zoonotic, meat-borne nematode Trichinella. For Cryptosporidium and Giardia, focus is on clinical disease and transmission, including use of molecular typing tools to improve our understanding of the zoonotic potential of these ubiquitous parasites.

The laboratory has been appointed the Danish reference laboratory for Trichinella, and is therefore in charge of education and authorization by examination of technical personnel working with meat inspection for Trichinella.
