HHLU is a pharmacist (1996) with a PhD in environmental risk assessment of pharmaceuticals (2000). Since 2006 he has been working mainly as an associated professor/senior researcher at the Technical University of Denmark, Department of Environmental Engineering. His main focus is chemicals’ and nanomaterials’ fate and effect in the natural and technical environment. Recent activities have focused on source characterisation of organic micropollutants, inherent properties, source tracking, source dynamics and urban releases through the EU funded projects ScorePP and COHIBA. The current focus is on PNEC derivation of nanomaterials through the Danish EPA funded NanoDEN project, where especially how test set-ups and inherent nanomaterial properties influence the validity of test results and the further derivation of PNEC values. Also the different approaches to derive PNEC values are studied
