Dimitar Borisov Karakashev received his PhD in Microbiology from the Institute of Microbiology- Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IM-BAS, Sofia, Bulgaria) in 2005. During his PhD he spent nine months at Department of Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, DK. He has a multidisciplinary background in the fields of microbiology, molecular biology, and process biotechnologies. Currently, he is employed as a senior researcher (equivalence of associated professor) in Bioenergy Group, Section Residual Resources Engineering , Department of Environmental Engineering, Technical University of Denmark. His research interests focus on the biofuels production from residual biomass feedstocks in a biorefinery aspect. He has 38 peer reviewed publications, 1 patent, more than 900 citations and H index 16.
