Being engagedin an industrial research project, my research interest is the development of procedures, methods and support tools for development of product architectures in coordination with development of business processes. We see one of the main challenges within this area to be the lack of models to support, coordinate and align corporate architectures within the market-, product- and production domains.
Basically, the purpose of these models is to bring abstract elements and relations in complex systems into a visual format unifying professionals from the relevant domains (marketing, engineering, production/supply etc.) to avoid decisions with a narrow outlook and think ahead where possible. The models are applied within industrial development and improvement projects to enhance design preparation, variant- and complexity management, solution/module/component reuse, and increase companies’ ability to launch multiple derivative products and features in a profitable way.
