Brian Dall Schyth modtog i 2007 Ph.D. graden i medicin fra det Sundhedsvidenskabelige Fakultet på Aarhus Universitet efter en afhandling om brugen af små interfererende RNAer (siRNA) som antiviral behandling i fisk som modeldyr. Han har tidligere modtaget kandidat graden fra afdeling for Marin Økologi samme sted efter et speciale omhandlende parasitøkologi.
BDS er ansat på DTUs afdeling i Århus hvor han er ansvarlig for projektet: Targeted in vivo knockdown of animal genes by small nucleic acids. Projektet er et samarbejde med siRNA delivery centret på Aarhus Universitet ledet af Professor Finn Skou Pedersen. I projektet beskrives små RNAers evne til at regulere cellens gener under virus infektion. Formålet er at fremstille nye behandlingsformer mod virussygdomme hos mennesker og dyr. I projektet anvendes primært en fiskemodel der har vist sig gunstig til formålet.
