Organisation profile

The vision of the section is to establish a coherent understanding of the importance of geological and geotechnical conditions under varying climatic conditions as well as to form the basis for environmentally and socially responsible resource utilization, including exploitation of natural resources from Danish and Greenlandic subsoil, waste recycling and urban mining.

The research projects taking place currently in the section are focused on rock mechanical and geochemical behaviour of chalk, design of monopile foundations for offshore wind turbines, constitutive models for soil and rock, the effect of climate conditions on infrastructure, electrodialytic resource recovery, waste and wastewater handling.

The employees of the Section of Geotechnics and Geology participate actively in the design of large infrastructure projects in Denmark by providing consultant services. Also a close collaboration has been established with Greenlandic authorities and public institutions.
