Organisation profile

We are dedicated to research on III-V semiconductors (GaAs, InP), which are so far the most prominent materials for solid state light sources and integrated optical devices. Our main objective is to investigate the full potential of semiconductor materials and structures for the development of photonic and optoelectronic components for optical signal generation and processing in communication systems and networks. We are combining modeling and characterization of ultrafast dynamics in semiconductor heterostructures and devices with advanced fabrication technologies to develop novel optoelectronic devices for broadband telecommunication. On the short term, we are focusing on devices with relevance for Danish optical communication industries, such as fast modulators and compact short-pulse sources. This work is complemented by extensive research on related devices for further signal processing, e.g. wavelength conversion, optical sampling and optical signal regeneration. On the longer term, we shall make use of our basic research in semiconductor nanostructures and photonic crystals to develop a new generation of quantum-optoelectronic devices with increased functionality and a higher degree of miniaturization and integration.
